Due Date

So who forgot to notify the baby that yesterday was its due date? Actually, it’s good that we haven’t had the baby yet because we’ve had a few last minute things to do around the house. For example, our TV went out last week. And then we decided to replace our double oven. Great timing! The replacement lamp for the TV arrived yesterday, and Dave installed it with no problems. The new oven arrived today, with a couple of glitches. The guy at Home Depot said that the delivery company would remove the old oven and install the new one. Sounds great! Well, it turns out that they would actually just haul off the old one if you had already removed it. And, they would install the new one if it didn’t have to be hard-wired in. So, we were screwed on both accounts. Dave’s dad is coming up this evening to help him take out the old and install the new. It should be a case of just connecting a few wires, right? We'll see…

Meanwhile, I’m just hanging out. It’s odd to know that a surprise is coming, but you don't know when. It adds urgency to everything you do. For example, the house has to be clean at all times. Dishes have to be washed and put up immediately after use. The bathroom has to be wiped down daily. Those clothes have to be washed as soon as there’s enough for a load because you just don’t know when we’ll have to go to the hospital! I have restrained myself with the vacuuming and mopping, just doing it once a week. This must be what it’s like to have your house up for sale and ready to show at any moment. The need for perpetual cleanliness is certainly not my style…

Also, we can no longer call anyone because they automatically assume it’s time! I can no longer log into Instant Messenger, which I use for work, because I’m bombarded with chats asking if I’m at the hospital. And if Dave is late to work or running an errand, his coworkers assume that we are having the baby if his truck is missing from the parking lot. It’s really quite funny. We could really take advantage of this opportunity to mess with people, but unfortunately, I just don’t have the energy.
